About
Rene Cervantes is a portrait/commercial photographer living in Brooklyn. He was born in El Paso, Texas in the late 70’s and grew up in Juarez, Mexico. After a seven-year run dedicated to music, playing drums in alternative and experimental bands in the borderlands, his interest and love for photography became evident. Two months short of his 24th birthday, with two bags, a car that barely ran and a Canon AE-1 camera, he moved to Santa Barbara, California, to attend Brooks Institute of Photography. Against all odds, three years later, he graduated with honors and was on his way to New York City.
Shortly after moving to New York and settling in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, he began to work for celebrity and advertising photographer Matthias Clamer. During the next five years he would see the world, make great friends, develop his own style of portraiture and overall approach to photography.
Rene now lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn. His continued focus on editorial, commercial, and advertising photography as well as self funded projects, have given him the opportunity to work with high profile clients such as MTV, NBC Universal, Ghurka, Nylon Mexico, Ernest Alexander, OWN Network, Bonobos, and Capezio to name a few.
